The warm up that was most helpful to me so far was the sign language A (picture above). This was most helpful for me because I have never been good at drawing hands and drawing based on shapes you see rather than the little details, I think made my hand more successful.
Value is the element of design that defines the lights and darks in an artwork. Composition is the placement or arrangement of visual elements or ingredients in a work of art, as distinct from the subject of a work. It can also be thought of as the organization of the elements of art according to the principles of art. Pros of pen are that you get a dark even line every time, and when stippling, all the dots will look the same. Cons of pen are that you can't erase it and it is not easy to undo or fix mistakes. Pros of charcoal are that it is easy to fix mistakes and you can get really defined values with it. Cons of charcoal are that it is very messy and sometimes it is hard to tell how dark you need to make something in comparison with other things. Pros of pencil are that you have a lot of control over what you are doing and it is easy to fix mistakes. Cons of using pencil are that if you make a really dark line it is hard to erase and sometimes blending and shading can be difficult with pencil.

The artist I was inspired by is Hasan Kale. He is a Turkish artist and makes tiny paintings, mostly of Istanbul. He uses paint to make tiny, detailed paintings on food. What he does is referred to as micro-art and he has a website to look at and to purchase his art. The thing that really made me interested was that I am not good at painting anything regular sized, so for him to be able to do it so much smaller and have it be so intricate and detailed really inspired me. Below is his website link and some pictures of the work he has done.
